Books I'd Love Sequels To

I know I owe a write up on "The Exiled Queen" and I promise to get to it this weekend, but as anyone who stopped by here recently knows I'm in the middle of the National Novel Writing Month challenge. I got off to a great start and then hit a snag of too many other distractions last week. Sound familiar? But I did some great catching up last night and my urban fantasy romance is now at 6,000+ words. Yay! Also, I'm starting an online writing group for fantasy and YA fantasy writers. If you're interested please email me balmer64@yahoo.com. There is really nothing like having a support network, and I believe its crucial to have those who understand the needs of your genre.

After putting my story (working title "All Hallows Eve") to bed last night I revisited sections of books that I really love and that I really want the authors to write sequels to. And neither author seems at all interested in the possibility. I'm talking about "School of Magics" by Caroline Stevermer and "Sunshine" by Robin McKinley which Neil Gaiman has called, "Pretty Much Perfect." And it is.

Both fit into either the YA fantasy or regular adult category, I've seen both books in both sections of bookstores - Sunshine has recently been reissued with a new cover and put in the YA section of my local Borders. McKinley has gone on record on her blog asking the questons on a sequel to stop - that she writes what she is given to write and that's that. And we have to honor her, we do (especially those of us who write because we know of what she speaks), even though the end of Sunshine seems to take off on flight to the next book. Alas...But I am very much looking forward to her new book Pegasus, which is out soon (they didn't have it at my local Border's so I bought her book "Chalice" instead).

And I am going to be an optimist. I'm going to have faith that someday the muses will speak to McKinley again of the fates of Ray and Constantine.

Stevermer did write a sort of sequel to "A College of Magics" and even a prequel, but when I read what both are about online I'm not compelled to buy. It is her marvelous characters of Faris, and Tyrian (even if he's now in a new body) that I want to read about. Again, alas...

So here's a question to you dear readers. Do any of you have books you love that you wish the authors would write sequels to?
