Re: Green Leader for Earth Day – Prep Kitchen Essentials Leads the Way in Green, Sustainable and Well Made Products for Better Living
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Seal Beach, Calif. – This Earth Day, Wednesday April 22nd, PREP Kitchen Essentials will launch its “Stop The Madness” campaign with their new “No Plastic” Bag produce bag by giving away free bags to the first 50 visitors at their store in Seal Beach, CA.

PREP, long a local leader in green and sustainable living, is introducing its reusable muslin bag, intended to replace the plastic bags still being used for produce at grocery stores and farmer’s markets. The bag is large enough to hold fruits, vegetables, lettuces, grains and more, but weighs only a fraction of a pound and won’t add cost at the checkout register. The light but durable unbleached muslin is washable and the bags can be used over and over again replacing the need to use plastic bags in the produce section. The store’s owner, Lisa Dohner, will be making appearances at local farmer’s markets as well to give away PREP’s “No Plastic” Bag to raise the awareness of how easy it is to reverse our reliance on plastic.

This is just the latest effort supporting PREP’s passion for green and sustainable thinking for better living. All of the store’s paper products are made from recycled paper including the gift wrap, boxes, ribbons and tissue used in the store as well as the napkins and paper towels used in cooking classes and even the store’s toilet tissue.

Prep has taken meticulous care to stock the store with high quality (and often hard to find) cooking and kitchen items, again with an emphasis on products that are Made In America and fit the criteria of durability, functionality, sustainability and green thinking. “We sell products that last a lifetime,” says Dohner, “avoiding the practically disposable utensils and kitchen products offered in abundance at the big box stores. If you buy a garlic peeler at PREP, it may cost a little more but it will work perfectly and you will never have to replace it.” The muslin “No Plastic” Bag will retail for $1.99.

“One of our big pushes for 2009 is to raise awareness of the issues regarding nonstick cookware,” says Dohner. “The EPA has asked manufacturers to phase out Teflon by 2011, so we stopped selling it in 2008. We love cooking with stainless steel and cast iron and often offer free ‘Cooking Without Nonstick’ demonstrations at our store. In fact, we’re happy to give free lessons to anyone, anytime, on the beauty and ease of cooking with stainless steel, all they have to do is stop by our store.”

PREP’s American made products include All Clad, Mrs Meyers, Epicurean Cutting Surfaces, Chilewich, Nordicware, Heavenly Hostess, Lamson, Microplane, Duncan Kitchen Grips and more.
